Art of Food | Bread & Butter

It's a lazy Saturday afternoon and you find yourself in a fabulous art museum in the midst of some fabulous exhibit, yet you're having trouble focusing on that priceless piece of surrealism in front of you as a fruit and baguette still life hanging on the adjacent wall taunts you. With your stomach rumbling you idly wonder if a vending machine graces any of the walls somewhere nearby.

Been there, done that.

The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, KY held the answer the past two weeks though at their Art of Food exhibition that ran from March 9 through March 20. The exhibit featured (mainly) edible works of art both in delicate petits fours form and wedding cake sized sculpture. The exhibit also featured a selection of food photography and larger-than-life twists on famous paintings made entirely from Fruit-loops or candy.

For those lucky enough to score a ticket to the opening night reception you could view the edible masterpieces while nibbling on some. Local chefs from some of Cincinnati's best restaurants, such as JeanRo, The Palace, Quarter Bistro and BonBonerie, turned out to show off their culinary skill, much to the delight of the art appreciators and foodies alike in attendance.

After wading through the murk that was finals week I managed to make it out to catch the last day of the exhibition. If you, like myself, were having a hectic two weeks and didn't get a chance to make it out here's your opportunity to live vicariously through a few photos I shot while I was there. Enjoy!
